Ex-president of Victoriabank Victor Turcanu has told Info-Prim Neo that the truth triumphed when businessman Victor Topa was sentenced to 10 years behind bars. According to Victor Turcanu, more than three years ago Topa appropriated shares in Victoriabank by threatening the bank’s then first vice president Galina Proidisvet, who had to sign them over to him. “Justice triumphed and the shares were returned to the rightful owners,” said Victor Turcanu. The scheme whereby the shares were appropriated was related by Victor Turcanu in a news conference at Info-Prim Neo in September. The ex-president of Victoriabank said then that his sister-in-law Galina Proidisvet was arrested, threatened and forced to sign a power of attorney. There were later created several firms through which the shares owned by Galina Proidisvet and other shareholders in the bank were misappropriated. Victor Turcanu said brothers Victor and Viorel Topa were behind that scheme. Businessman Victor Topa was sentenced to ten years in jail for obtaining valuable property by blackmail, anticorruption prosecutor Lilian Rudei confirmed. He said the court found Victor Topa and his accomplice Vladimir Morari guilty of illegally obtaining the transfer of the shares of Galina Proidisvet and her relatives to a banking institution.
