Two of the persons who exploded a grenade in the center of Chisinau on the City’s Day on October 14, 2009 and were sentenced to 16 and, respectively, 14 years in jail asked to be acquitted, the Prosecutor General’s Office has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Vasili Zaharov and Alexei Ginu disputed the convictions of the Chisinau Court of Appeals and demanded acquittal. The court rejected their application as unfounded and upheld the convictions.
The Buiucani district court sentenced three of the authors of the explosion - Eugeniu Bujac, Vasili Zaharov and Alexei Ginu – to 17, 16 and, respectively, 14 years behind bars. They were found guilty of attempting to murder persons, illegal keeping of munitions, while one of them also of illegal distribution of drugs. The charges against suspect Timur Dari were dropped following his death.
