Two police officers investigated for passive corruption

An officer of the Briceni Police Inspectorate and another one of the Botanica Police Inspectorate were arrested by the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion of passive corruption, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Center, the officer from Briceni asked for €500 from two brothers for not holding them accountable for causing boldly injuries. Later, the officer and the denouncer agreed on €400. The arrest was made immediately after the money was transmitted. The policeman was put under arrest for 72 hours.

The sector policeman of Botanica district asked for money for not forcing a person to register with the narcologist and the psychiatrist.

Criminal cases were started against both of the police officers. They face 5 to 10 years in jail and a fine of 120,000 to 160,000 lei. They will also be banned from holding public posts for a period of 7 to 10 years.

A number of 26 police officers have been investigated for acts of corruption so far this year.
