Two wells located in the Lower Prut area will be renovated within a philanthropic program titled “A new life for the Prut”. As a result, 40,000 people living in southern Moldova will have access to drinking water.

”Moldsilva” Agency press officer Viorica Caciuc has told IPN that a well will be laid out near Cahul town, where there is a recreational area, while another one in Valeni village of Cahul district. The well situated near the Cahul-Giurgiulesti route will become a tourist attraction of the area because the festival “Sweet acacia flower”, which involves over 3,000 tourists, is staged nearby annually and because the area is often visited by Germans who travel up to the Danube region.

The renovation and laying out works will start in May and will cost €4,000. The people living in the Lower Prut area will have access to drinking water towards the end of August.

The project “A new life for the Prut” was launched in October 2012. Its goal is to conserve the natural resources of the Lower Prut area and to sustainably develop the local communities. The action planning and feasibility study were carried out by representatives of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Danube-Carpathians and WWF Germany).
