RED Union Fenosa urges the people and companies to join the global initiative Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communique, the company says that though Moldova is a small country, its energy consumption increased significantly during the last ten years. “The rising demand inevitably leads to enlarged generation capacities and, consequently, to larger volumes of emissions of noxious gases,” it is said in the communique. RED Union Fenosa says it promotes a number of environment protection initiatives, including by saving energy. It implements a broad energy efficiency program that popularizes the practical measures aimed at saving energy and minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The Earth Hour event, which was launched by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, is in line with RED Union Fenosa's energy efficiency plan. Therefore, the company's administration decided to make common cause with the millions of people who plead for a cleaner environment. RED Union Fenosa made an appeal to its clients as well, inviting them to join the given effort and prove their commitment by voluntarily and reasonably turning off the electric devices, lamps and other equipment that consumes electric power during one hour on March 27, starting at 20.30. The initiative is supported by the National Fund for Children and Youth “Gutta-Club”, which has participated in energy efficiency promotion activities together with RED Union Fenosa for two years. Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. In 2009, the event involved 1 billion people from over 1,000 large cities. With almost 5 million supporters and a global network in over 100 countries, the World Wildlife Fund is one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.
