The Central Election Commission on Wednesday refused to register the Electoral Bloc “Victory – Pobeda” for participation in the October 20 national constitutional referendum and presidential election, IPN reports.

According to the constitution agreement, the bloc is made up of the Political Party “Renaissance”, the Political Party “Force for Alternative and Salvation of Moldova”, the Political Party “Chance”, and the Political Party “Victory”. MP Marina Tauber is the executive secretary of the bloc.

CEC deputy chairman Pavel Postica said that the CEC requested the applicants to clarify a number of things related to the detected faults. However, the subjects did not react appropriately and denied the existence of faults and did not take the opportunity to remedy the shortcomings.

The CEC members had objections to the name of the electoral bloc. “The Commission does not deny the election competitors’ right to form two distinct electoral blocs in the presidential election and the referendum in different variations of the component parts, but in this case the name should be distinct. On the other hand, if the position of the applicants had been admitted, it would have been possible to subsequently register a bloc with the same name in another type of election, but with other constituent parts, including political opponents. This would cause confusion among the voters and would vitiate the free expression of the will of the voters,” explained Pavel Postica.

According to him, the transfer of the image of a political party declared unconstitutional by taking joint actions to use the name of the given party as well as the public declarations about the election of the party’s chairman as chairman of the bloc cannot be accepted by the competent authorities.

The Central Election Commission’s decision can be appealed within three days to the Chisinau Court of Appeals.

Adrian Cojocaru, the representative of the constituent parties, said the refusal to register the electoral bloc “Victory – Pobeda” is a flagrant violation of the electoral right of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, this is against the fundamental rights of the citizens and they will use all remedies to restore legality in this process.
