Voter turnout at 1pm close to 28%

Almost 28% of the voters in Moldova cast their ballots by 1pm. The Central Election Commission’s president Iurie Ciocan told a news conference that this does not yet mean that the elections can be validated. For this to happen, the voter turnout in each settlement must be at least 25%, IPN reports.

The most active so far were the voters in Pocrovca village of Donduseni district, where the voter turnout is over 70%. At the other pole, there is a polling place in Soroca town, where only 4% of those eligible have voted.

By electoral districts, the voters in Soldanesti district are the most active, with over 35% of these having marked their ballots. In Gagauzia, the voter turnout is only 20%.

In the municipality of Chisinau, the voter turnout is 21%, while in Balti - 23%.

There were reported no incidents in Chisinau and in the country. Member of the Central Election Commission Alexandru Simionov said the voters from Corjova village go unhindered to vote in the neighboring village Cocieri. The voter turnout there is 29%.

Of all the voters, the most active ones are those aged over 50. About 60% of these have voted. The voters aged between 18 and 21 who cast their ballots represent 2%, while the voters from the other age categories – between 16% and 21.33%.

About 77% of the candidates for mayoralty are men. The male candidates for the post of councilor represent over 64%.
