The Chisinau water supplier intends to start to install wireless high-precision water meters that enable distance reading starting with this April. At the first stage, new water meters will be set up in 100 apartment buildings where there is a big difference between the quantity of water measured by the common meter and the quantity reported by dwellers based on individual meters, IPN reports.
By the end of this week, the requirements will be formulated and made public. SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” director Veronica Herta said the bidding contest is open now only to business entities that propose water meters that were metrologically tested in Moldova. However, after the latest amendments made to the Law on Metrology take effect, meters certified in the EU could also be used in Moldova. “That’s why we asked those from the metrology service to provide us with the list of those who have such certificates so that a larger number of companies could take part,” she stated.
Veronica Herta also said that the first 100 blocks where new water meters will be installed are situated in Chisinau municipality. The difference in quantities there during six months amounts to 500,000 cubic meters of water.
The works to install the new meters will be financed by SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”. About 5 million lei is needed to set up new meters in the 100 blocks. A sum of €8 million is necessary to install the meters of new model in all the about 260,000 apartments of Chisinau. Negotiations will be held with foreign partners to obtain financing for this project.
