A woman aged 55 was arrested on suspicion that she recruited persons without a permanent place of dwelling to make them beg on the streets of Chisinau. As a result of searches carried out in the house where the persons were accommodated, the police found two women with children and six men aged between 30 and 60, IPN reports.
The police had followed the woman for almost three months. It was established that this made a large profit by organizing begging after recruiting and lodging persons at a house on Ismail St. These were obliged to daily beg at intersections, shopping centers or other crowded places.
Money earned from begging, including marked banknotes that were earlier transmitted under the control of investigation officers, was seized.
The suspect was placed under arrest for 72 hours, while the recruited persons are to be questioned within the cases started over begging, slavery and conditions similar to slavery. If the woman is found guilty, she will serve three to ten years in jail. The police in Chisinau continue the investigation in order to identify the accomplices in this case and other persons recruited to beg.
