The women’s national handball team of Moldova suffered a defeat in their first match in the Challenge Trophy in Bulgaria. On Thursday, March 22, the squad coached by Serghei Crasnii and Cristina Sirbu lost 22-25 to the hosts, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Moldova were leading 12-11 at the break, but failed to defend their advantage until the end. Moldova’s best player was Mihaela Alexa who scored 6 goals.
In the other match of group B, Latvia bested Armenia 37-19 and became group leaders thanks to a better goal difference than Bulgaria.
Estonia defeated the Faeroes 32-23 and Malta outplayed Israel 22-12 in the other preliminary group.
On Friday, March 23, Moldova will play Latvia and Bulgaria will take on Armenia.
In February, the men’s national team of Moldova won the Challenge Trophy after winning the final against the Faeroes.
