Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ion Sula visited the building located at the intersection of the Chisinau streets M. Kogalniceanu and A. Pushkin, which is the new head office of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), to see how the works to restore it go. He said that this building will be one of the most beautiful architectural monuments restored in Chisinau. The contractor assured that the repair works will be completed by this yearned, IPN reports.

The works to reconstruct the architectural monument built in 1904 to house the Constructions Division of the Provincial Administration were started in July 2014. The restored building will now house the ANSA which is financially, technically and consultatively supported by the MAC-P Project to adjust the national system of food safety regulation and supervision standards and norms to the European requirements, to obtain the international recognition of the ANSA certificates, to reconstruct the head office and to equip the labs.

“When the restoration works started, the historical building was in a very bad state. The external wall from Pushkin St was 15 cm inclined and was close to collapsing,” stated Ion Sula. The architects aimed to restore the building so that it looked exactly like in 1904. In this regard, they used archive pictures and descriptions and preserved architectural fragments.

According to the architects, the restored historical building from Kogalniceanu St will resist for another 100 years.

The budget of the project to reconstruct and restore the historical building and to outfit the offices and conference halls is 57 million lei. Of this sum, 19 million lei is provided by the ANSA, while 38 million lei by the World Bank-funded Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MAC-P).
