Wrestlers fail to qualify for Olympic Games

Six Moldovan freestyle wrestlers could not qualify for the London Olympics. In the European qualifiers held in Bulgaria, they failed to qualify for the finals in their weight categories, Info-Prim Neo reports. Roman Dermenji (74kg class) and Nicolae Ceban (96 kg) had the best performance, winning bronzes. Alexandru Chirtoaca (55kg), Andrei Perpelita (60kg), Vladimir Gotisan (66kg), and Piotr Ianulov (84kg) were eliminated after the first battles. On April 21, Gheorghe Shushumkov will compete in the 120kg class. At the qualifiers in Bulgaria, Moldova will be represented by another nine athletes – three at the women’s competitions and six at the Greco-Roman competitions. The next qualifying round for this summer’s Olympic Games will take place in China at the end of April.
