Year of World War II Veterans in Balti

The Balti Municipal Council declared 2015 the Year of World War II Veterans. On this occasion, a council was created to work out a special program of thematic activities. The economic units, organizations and institutions of the town were recommended to provide financial assistance to the veterans and to support them by different activities, IPN reports.

The local councilors of Balti decided to provide by 2,500 lei in financial support for paying the bills to each veteran. This money is intended for the first quarter of this year. During the year, each veteran from Balti will receive by 10,000 lei overall from the municipal budget.

There are now 62 World War II veterans in Balti, by 38 fewer than two years ago.

2015 was declared the Year of World War II Veterans at national level too, by a Parliament decision. The initiative was proposed by the Party of Communists and was supported by most of the MPs at the end of February. During a month, the Government is to draw up a national plan of action and to submit it to the legislative body for adoption.
