A man aged 23 was struck fatally by a car on Muncesti St in Chisinau in the evening of November 18, IPN reports.
Press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati said the victim was crossing the street legally at the pedestrian crossing. The 22-year-old driver faces three to seven years in jail.
According to eyewitnesses, quoted in the ambulance service reports, the young man was actually lying on the roadway and the driver didn’t see him, being blinded by the lights of the cars coming from the opposite direction.
The National Patrolling Inspectorate said more than 260 people were killed in the over 2,000 accidents that happened on the national roads so far this year.
