Nineteen employees of the Customs Service and 13 employees of the Border Police were arrested during the October 22 raid at the Leuseni-Albita customs post. The head of the National Anticorruption Center’s Prosecution Division Bogdan Zumbreanu told a news conference that those arrested took over 100,000 lei bribe, IPN reports.
The money was found in the offices, vehicles and at the homes of the customs employees. According to Bogdan Zumbreanu, the investigation goes on. The prosecutors will soon formulate the charges.
Prosecutor Eduard Harujen said that searches were carried out at the Leuseni customs post and at the places of the customs employees. The investigation was launched on May 1. “Investigation operations and operations under cover were performed during six months. They ended with a case of bribe taking by customs employees today,” he stated.
He added that those arrested include employees with work experience of 20 years and recently employed persons.
The raid covered both of the border crossing points of the Leuseni-Albita customs post and was carried out with the assistance of representatives of Romanian bodies.
