85% of national roads are in bad and very bad condition

85% of the country's roads are in a bad and very bad condition, Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Boris Gherasim said in a news conference held on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims that is marked on November 21, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the deputy minister, the road fund is insufficient for repairing and maintaining the roads. If it is increased, the 60 road sections that become impassable when it rains and snows will be repaired during the next several years. Boris Gherasim said there is enough money to repair 1,000 km of the Chisinau – Hancesti and Chisinau – Orhei – Rezina roads. Another lending agreement will be signed with the European Investment Bank to obtain money to rehabilitate the roads. The authorities are also carrying out negotiations with the European Commission to get a grant that will be used to repair the roads Chisinau – Balti, Chisinau – Ungheni – Sculeni, and Comrat– Ciumai – Giurgiulesti.
