The activities to mark the Day of Remembrance for Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan War that is annually celebrated on February 15 will start with a Memory March and laying of lowers at the Memorial Complex “Sacred Memory to the Sons of Motherland”. The program of activities was approved by the Cabinet on October 24, IPN reports.
In the course of the day, the national education institutions and the military units will stage meetings with war veterans. There will be mounted exhibitions and broadcast thematic programs on radio and TV. The monuments to soldiers killed in battle will be cleaned and restored and commemorative plaques will be placed in localities. Commemoration meals will be held.
In 2019, it is the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of the armed troops from Afghanistan. About 12,000 Moldovans took part in the war between 1979 and 1989. 301 military men were killed and four soldiers went missing. In Moldova, there are now about 8,000 participants in the Afghanistan war. On February 15, these will be able to travel free to the commemoration activities.
