Forty inventions of Swedish women are on display at an exhibition in Chisinau for the first time. Anti-rape buckle, T-shirt with electrocardiogram, blanket for reading, and bicycle handlebar with security system are only some of the Swedish inventions presented to the Moldovan public. Chisinau is the tenth European capital hosting the event, IPN reports.

The exhibit “Creative women: Accomplishments of women inventors of Sweden” was organized by the Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with East Europe Foundation and represents the mobile version of the permanent exhibition “Women’s Inventions” of the Stockholm National Museum of Science and Technology. The permanent exhibit includes 73 inventions by Swedish women.

In the opening of the event, Swedish Ambassador in Chisinau Ingrid Tersman said that by displaying these selected objects they wanted to show the skills and abilities of women and their role in society. The exhibit is also an occasion for holding discussions on gender equality and inspires the ladies and girls to make something similar.

The event is aimed at encouraging creativity and innovation and at promoting equality of chances. In general, it promotes women’s rights and tends to show the Moldovan public that simple and useful objects can be invented in certain circumstances, said the head of East Europe Foundation in Chisinau Sorin Mereacre.

Many of the exhibits are patented in Sweden and are sold in large numbers. They cannot be bought at the exhibit in Chisinau, but can be ordered online.
 
The exhibition will include six seminars and thematic workshops focusing on the involvement of women in the business sector, decision making and the social life. The seminars will be given by Swedish experts.

The exhibit “Creative women: Accomplishments of women inventors of Sweden” is hosted by the Academy of Economic Studies. It will be open until November 30. Entrance is free of charge.
