Chisinau administration asks police to get involved in combating street trading

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna called on the municipal police to engage in combating street trading that continues to flourish, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Before summer, the problem of unauthorized street trading becomes again the focus of attention,” Furtuna said at the meeting of the Chisinau City Hall officials on April 13. “Some of the economic entities sell soft drinks and other products at stalls without authorizations and documents of origin,” Mihai Furtuna said. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the legislation should be modified so that the police are allowed to seize the goods sold without authorization. The municipal police chief Silviu Musuc said the police have limited possibilities of getting involved in combating street trading. “The police can only draw up reports. Afterward the case is sent to court for examination,” Musuc said, stressing that under such conditions the traders continue to illegally sell goods in the street. Mihai Furtuna considers that the police should become more active when the commissions dealing with unauthorized trade start work. “We must make everything possible to fight this phenomenon, not wait for the Parliament to solve the problem by special laws,” he said, adding that they should anyway make an approach to the legislative body.
