Over the last 20 years, Chisinau lost more than 1,000 hectares of green areas following the erecting of authorized and unauthorized constructions. Specialists warn that if the pace of construction works is kept, Chisinau will no longer be a green city, as it is considered.
In a news conference at IPN, doctor, lecturer and researcher at the Chisinau Botanical Garden Alexei Palancean said the green areas in Chisinau are no longer appropriately laid out. Roses and other flowers are not planted when new areas are developed. There are not used flowering ornamental bushes. This problem must be raised so that the municipal authorities deal with it. The Botanical Garden has over 10,000 species of plants that can save the green areas in Chisinau and it is ready to cooperate with the municipal authorities in this respect.
“We want the administration of Chisinau to more seriously address the problem of green areas. These should be indicated in the future urbanistic plan of the city. An inventorying is necessary,” stated Alexei Palancean. He added that the Botanical Garden is ready to provide the necessary cuttings, but a long-term plan is required.
There were identified the most polluted areas of the city. Specialists of the Botanical Garden propose species of plants and bushes depending on the pollution degree so as to improve the situation.
The Centru district and the areas near Muncesti St are the most polluted. The areas around the South Bus Terminal and the part of Rascani district from the direction of Orhei district are the least polluted. In Botanica, Ciocana and Buiucani districts, the level of noxious substances in the air is optimal as there are large quarters with parks.
