A customs inspector was detained on suspicion of letting a minibus full with shoes and clothing to enter the country without declaring the goods, respectively without paying taxes. The customs officer’s accomplice was also detained, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the goods to the value of over 1.3 million lei were brought from Odessa, Ukraine. The minibus was detected on the route to Chisinau by employees of the Border Police, close to Tudora, near which there is a border crossing point.
Subsequently, under the direction of PCCOCS, the case was taken over for investigation by the Customs Service, which carried out searches in Chisinau and outside the capital city.
Based on the accumulated evidence, the batch of goods and the minibus were impounded and prosecutors are to request their seizure. The investigation of the customs inspector and his accomplice continues.
The management of the Customs Service specified in this connection that the people who do not abide by the principle of fairness and professional integrity must leave voluntarily because eliminating corruption factors is one of the key objectives of the institution and, in this regard, the cooperation actions with the relevant institutions are stepped up.
