Emergency measures to be taken following worsening of situation on roads
Employees of the Ministry of the Interior will patrol nonstop the roads in Chisinau and the country with all the available audio and video equipment. Such an ordinance was made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat following the worsening of the situation on the roads, especially within the municipality of Chisinau, the Government’s press service has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Under the same ordinance, the Ministry of the Interior, in concert with the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and the local public authorities, will initiate a campaign to prevent the violation of the technical norms in the public units of transport.
The Ministry, together with other authorities of the National Council for Road Safety, will launch a campaign to secure the perimeter of the schools during the summer exam sessions and another campaign to combat speeding and driving under the influence.
A number of ministries and other authorities will prepare a thorough report on the situation in the field by the next meeting of the Council. The authorities will formulate proposals for toughening up the penalties imposed on inebriated and speeding drivers.
Vlad Filat asked the local public authorities to strictly monitor the licensing of the public units of transport and the respecting of the road safety conditions by those who provide public transport services and to take measures to deal with the vehicles parked illegally.
Eleven persons are still in hospital after they were injured in an accident near the lake in Danceni, Ialoveni, on June 1. Two of the patients are in a critical condition. According to the Traffic Police Division, three persons, one of who a boy aged 12, died on the spot, while another person died in the hospital later. Eyewitnesses said that the accident resulted in six deaths.
