A former employee of the Ministry of the Interior was detained and is under investigation because since 2021, he allegedly organized the granting of Moldovan citizenship on the basis of forged birth certificates and national passports, IPN reports.

Law enforcement officers carried out searches at employees of the Multifunctional Centers of the Public Services Agency in Chisinau, Anenii Noi and Căușeni and other persons involved in the scheme.

The former employee of the Ministry of the Interior allegedly coordinated the scheme by which applicants for Moldovan citizenship presented old Transnistrian passports and birth certificates of other persons, but with the real photo of the applicants to the Public Services Agency. Thus, a number of people illegally received Moldovan citizenship, including two applicants from Ukraine who were already identified.

The investigation into the case continues.
