Exhibition in memory of victims of Stalinist deportations mounted in Parliament Building

The Parliament Building is hosting a thematic exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the largest wave of Stalinist deportations in Bessarabia. The exhibition contains photographs and copies of documents from the stock of the National Archives Agency. They tell the life stories of deported persons, who lived in different localities of the country, were of different nationalities and occupied different social positions, IPN reports.

The exhibition also illustrates the story of MP Valentina Ghețu’s family. A series of old family photographs, original documents and objects from the MP’s collection speak about the sad story of Simon family from Zabriceni village of Edineț district. There is also an old samovar that is over 200 years old, which Valentina Ghețu bought after her family returned from Siberia and still uses it on special occasions.

Among the objects on display are towels and tablecloths crocheted in Siberia by the parliamentarian’s mother and grandmother, as well as several shawls worn by family members.
