Explosion witnesses saw young man dressed in black, who initially fired a shot

Eyewitnesses to yesterday's explosion in downtown Chisinau said they saw a young man dressed in black, who initially fired a shot and then threw something. The explosion occurred several seconds later. Specialists say the crowd was lucky as an F-1 grenade would have caused casualties, not only injuries as the used RG-42 grenade, Info-Prim Neo reports. The explosion happened near the Triumphal Arch at about 22.00, during the recital given by Stefan Banica Junior. Accidentally or not, two threatening phone calls were made at that period to Premier Vlad Filat's anteroom. The Prosecutor General's Office said they will hold an inquiry into this case. According to Minister of the Interior Victor Catan, more than 40 persons were injured in the explosion. Many of them have been already discharged from the hospital. A RG-42 grenade has a radius of action of 5 meters and a safety radius of 25 meters, while an F-1 grednade – a radius of action of 100 meters and no safety radius.
