The pensioners will obtain nothing through violence, Valentina Sturza, president of the Associational of Former Deportees and Political Detainees, said at a news conference on October 29. The members of the organization are concerned about the events taking place in the street and the more violent behavior of the pensioners. They ask Maia Laguta, who rallies the pensioners, to stop the protests, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Why do they come now to demand pensions, salaries, lower charges? They should have done it three-four years ago. Why didn't they demand that the Communists pay pensions of 300 euros as they promised? They believed their promises and now they should keep silent. What the Communists didn't do during three years, the Democrats did during a month and have yet a lot of work to do,” Valentina Sturza said.
She urged the pensioners to think about what they do and what they say. “These persons are not hungry as Maia Laguta said. We endured hunger in Siberia and suffered injustices. The Communists stole our childhood and youth. We experienced genocide, not these persons who will be paid by 70 lei in compensation. This sum is enough. They do not travel every day, as the young peoeple with families do,” the president of the Associational of Former Deportees and Political Detainees said.
Valentina Sturza added that the water charges in other towns are larger, but the people there do not protest. She presumed that these protests might be staged by supporters of the former government.
The Chisinau pensioners protest against the rise in water and sewerage charges and the annulment of travel concessions for them. They said they are ready to protest every Tuesday and Thursday until the given decisions are not annulled. A week ago, they treated rudely Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who came out of the Government's building to talk to them.
