Gheorghe Papuc: I will answer all questions in a news conference

Anticorruption prosecutors Friday questioned former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc in two cases opened over embezzlement of public money at the Ministry of the Interior. Papuc told the reporters that he will answer all their questions in a news conference that he will give when the investigation is over, Info-Prim Neo reports. Gheorghe Papuc came to the hearing about two hours late. He explained he waited for his lawyer who was dealing with another case. The former minister did not want to give details about the case, saying he does not want to hinder the investigation. In a communique issued earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office said Gheorghe Papuc is suspected of signing a contract for the lease of nonresidential offices in a building located on Zelinski St in Chisinau and allowed the PCRM's Committee in Botanica to use them. A sum of 502,700 lei was paid from the Ministry of the Interior's budget for the lease of these offices. The former minister is also suspected of giving a car belonging of the Ministry of the Interior to the PCRM for use in December 2005. The car has been used by the PCRM's parliamentary group for four years. The damage caused to the Ministry's budget by such an act was estimated at 326,200 lei.
