The Government is actively considering the option of using the former headquarters of the Prosecutor General’s Office as the new headquarters of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO). The announcement was made by Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă, IPN reports.
Currently, the building is used by the National Integrity Authority and the Office for Prevention and Fight against Money Laundering. “Discussions are ongoing to identify optimal solutions that respect the interests and continuity of activity of all the institutions involved,” stated Daniel Vodă.
At the beginning of this year, the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin, in her report for 2023, said that a priority for 2024 is to see the APO moving to new headquarters. APO deputy chief prosecutor Octavian Yakimovski said that the absence of suitable headquarters complicates the work of this institution. In the absence of space, new persons cannot be hired at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Earlier, he also said that anticorruption prosecutors manage 220 cases and the APO’s work could be accelerated if the institution would be empowered as the law provides.
