Health Ministry warns about COVID-19 testing performed by private labs

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection has warned against having tests for the novel coronavirus at private laboratories after two incorrectly diagnosed cases were referred to the public healthcare system, IPN reports, making reference to Minister of Health Viorica Dumbrăveanu.

Two samples that tested positive for COVID-19 at private laboratories were referred to the National Public Health Agency on March 18. As a result of repeated testing, the Agency determined that these were negative. In this connection, Viorica Dumbrăveanu reiterated the importance of having tests only at the National Public Health Agency’s laboratory that was accredited by the WHO.

A state of emergency for 60 days was declared in Moldova on March 17 in connection with the COVID-19 infection. As many as 36 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Moldova so far. One infected person died, while another one was cured. Twenty-one of the 36 cases are cases of import.
