The pictures taken by the video cameras from the Government Building on the night of April 8 were sent to special commissions in Bucharest, Romania, and the United States for examination. Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco said Tuesday that the images and photographs have been taken to Bucharest by first deputy prosecutor Andrei Pantea and they are waiting for the results of the examinations, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Valeriu Zubco said the Prosecutor General's Office obtained the images from the State Guard and Protection Service in 2010. He denied the fact that these images had been sent to the Prosecutor's Office by Acting President Mihai Ghimpu and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who made them public on April 1 this year. “We held an internal inquiry to establish how these images were taken,” Zubko said.
“We asked for these images before they were made known as we did not have all the recordings. We had only the pictures take by the cameras from the Parliament and the Presidential Office as the legal case was initially opened over public disorder, not the death of Boboc,” Valeriu Zubco said.
Asked why he declared earlier that the police officers from the special brigade “Fulger” could not be identified as they wore protection masks at a time when the images presented by Ghimpu and Chirtoaca show clearly who kicked young protesters in Chisinau's central square, Valeriu Zubco said his previous statements were based on the testimonies of witnesses.
The pictures taken by the cameras from the Government building on the night of April 8 show police officers dressed in civies kicking and beating young men. Some of the policemen have been identified. Allegedly, the 23-year-old Valeriu Boboc was killed that night.
