Lei bills with signature of new central bank governor to appear by this yearend
Lei banknotes with the signature of the new governor of the National Bank of Moldova will be put into circulation by the end of 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We follow a procedure for replacing the money in circulation. The bills are replaced when they become worn,” said governor Dorin Dragutan, when asked by a reporter when lei bills with his signature will appear.
“The central bank has a supply of printed banknotes that have not been put into circulation yet. Under the plan for 2010, bills with my signatures will come out this year. Details about their value and when they will be issued will be provided later.”
Dragutan also said that the 1 ban coin was not taken out of circulation. It does not yet return to the National Bank. It is used in shops to give change. The withdrawal of this coin has not been discussed yet, the governor added.
