List of consular services and of beneficiaries of tax exemptions will be extended

The consular taxes for the Moldovan people will be the same for everyone, regardless of the post held, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said in the August 4 meeting of the Government, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Until now, the consular taxes were regulated by an ordinance made by the Government in 2000. This ordinance is no more valid as many of the taxes charged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassies and consulates are not included there. The size of taxes should be reviewed, Iurie Leanca said. The draft decision approved by the Government extends the list of consular services and the list of persons who will not pay taxes for these services. The consular services will now include the issuing of travel permits to persons who did not turn 18, transcription of birth certificates of persons who were burn in countries where Moldovan citizens live and authentication of paternity applications that are then transmitted to civil status offices, the Deputy Prime Minister said. The Moldovan citizens who will apply to be registered on a temporary or permanent basis will be expected from paying the tax. Only 7,800 citizens have been registered during the last few years. The urgency fee that is by 50% higher than the ordinary one may be annulled. The draft decision was published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said this important decision was drafted with delay and instructed that the document be finalized as soon as possible and submitted to the Parliament for approval.
