After six years of examinations and hearings, a 28-year-old man from Râșcani district was sentenced to six years in jail for causing a road accident that resulted in the death of two passengers. He was also banned from driving for five years, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the tragedy happened on the Vasileuți-Râșcani road in February 2014. The man was driving a VAZ car and had two passengers aboard. He didn’t adjust the speed to the conditions on the road and the vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. The impact was fatal for both of the passengers.
The driver and the victims were friends and that night were returning home from a discothèque held in the neighboring village.
In 2015 the case was sent to court. The culprit didn’t accept blame, saying the car was driven by one of the victims. The prosecutors managed to prove his guilt.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
