Marian Lupu sees no other way out than ensuring bilingual society

The self-integration mechanism is the basis on which the state and society can be further developed, regardless of the person’s ethnicity, Speaker Marian Lupu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. In a meeting with leaders of ethnocultural organizations and members of the Coordination Council of the ethnocultural organizations working under the Interethnic Relations Bureau on June 7, Marian Lupu said that he sees no other way out than ensuring bilingual society, even if it should be polylingual. ”Any other way will lead to misunderstanding and conflict. There is no other alternative in this respect,” stated the Speaker. According to him, we cannot yet speak about a principle of bilingualism in Moldova because not all the Moldovans speak Russian correctly from grammatical viewpoint, while the representatives of other ethnic groups do not speak the official language. ”It is strange that they try to fight against Russian in Moldova as this is the third most spoken language in the world and is the language of the UN,” said Feodor Sabii, the head of the Bulgarian community in Moldova. Svetlana Myslitski, who heads the Union of Ukrainians in Moldova, said that the Russian language is important because it unites people of different ethnic groups. She suggested that the official language should be taught to first-year university students who study in Russian so as to acquire the knowledge that they didn’t acquire in school. Marian Lupu asked the leaders of ethnocultural organizations to take part in such discussions more often, but stressed that the dialogue should be based on reason, not emotion.
