The mayor of a suburban settlement of Chisinau municipality and a functionary of the Chisinau City Hall were caught in the act of taking €20,000 bribe from a local man, IPN reports.

Constantin Andriuta, senior investigation officer of the National Investigation Inspectorate, told a news conferee that the two asked the money in exchange for renouncing the civil claims over a plot of land situated in the settlement.

The investigation officer didn’t provide information about the identity of the mayor and the settlement he heads. The two suspects were put under arrest for 72 hours. They face up to 15 years in jail for passive corruption or a fine of 60,000 lei.
