The Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia condemns the involvement by some hierarchs and clergy from the Republic of Moldova in the election campaign. In a press release, it said that these actions “are clearly aimed against the spiritual and national unity of the people between the Prut and Nistru rivers” and “violate the Gospel values,” IPN reports.

“Both from media sources and from first-hand information, we learned with indignation that, in recent weeks, these church officials have been actively involved in a hostile political mission. This involvement deepens the spiritual, social and political splits in the Republic of Moldova, contributing to the destabilization of all Orthodox communities in the country. More seriously, this scandalous agitation takes place within the Holy Altars and on the Holy Pulpits of the cathedrals and churches built through the sacrifice and love of our ancestors, who loved their language, nation and faith, defending them as martyrs at the price of blood,” reads the press release of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia.

The Church condemns the actions of the clergy who are involved in political propaganda and notes that “any gesture that affects the stability of the Church and society is intolerable, being in contradiction with the Holy Canons and the laws of the country.”

At the same time, the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova, which, according to it, reflects the democratic values and respect for the Church and Christianity. “These fundamental rights are essential for a future in which the Orthodox faith and national identity will coexist harmoniously with the dignity and prosperity of every citizen of the Republic of Moldova, who will be convinced that the salvation of the soul and the future of the country depend on sincere personal commitments to God and the history of the Romanian people between the Prut and Nistru rivers,” runs the press release.
