Moldova houses over 51,000 Ukrainians, 19,000 of whom are children

More than 51,000 Ukrainians who fled from war are now in the Republic of Moldova. Out of these, over 19,000 are chidlren. In total, over 112,000 Ukrainians entered Moldova since February 24, but more than 60,000 of them continued their way to other countries, IPN reports.

Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco told a news conference that many Ukrainians entered the country through the Palanca, Tudora, Otaci and Criva border crossing points that continue to be the most popular ones. About 800 Ukrainians asked for asylum in the Republic of Moldova.

The minister said the authorities feel the support of the national community and the international community in their efforts to offer assistance to the Ukrainian refugees. The first batch of assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees arrived in Chisinau today. The aid was provided by the Government of the Netherlands through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and consists of family tents, blankets, pillows, food products and others.

The aid to the value of €750,000 will be used to supply the existing placement centers and to create new centers.
