Moldova's Alexandru Bejenaru wins gold at mixed martial arts competition
Alexandru Bejenaru has won the gold medal in the 75kg category of the World Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championships, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The 23-year-old Moldovan became champion after defeating fighters from Italy, Romania and Ukraine.
“I didn't expect such an outcome and that's why I'm extremely happy”, the champion told a news conference Monday.
“Alexandru practices kickboxing and a shift to a different style of combat sport was a challenge for him, but eventually he proved his talent”, said Tudor Gorea, the president of the Moldovan Federation of Oriental Kickboxing.
The World Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championships brought together 200 competitors from 30 countries.
