The National Bank of Moldova issued ten commemorative and jubilee coins of the series “Personalities”, “Famous Women”, “Classical Writers Alley of the Public Garden “Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” of Chisinau Municipality”, “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”, “Historical Events” and “Science and Innovation”. The coins are made from gold and silver, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Bank said the series “Science and Innovation” is a novelty. The first silver commemorative coin of this series was issued to mark a century of the birth of mathematician Vladimir Andrunachievici, who is one of the founders of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and was the patron of the Institute of the Mathematics and Information.
The series “Personalities” is supplemented with the jubilee coin dedicated to composer Eugen Doga, on his 80th birthday, and with the commemorative coin on the 80th birthday of poet, publicist, political, scientist, doctor of chemistry and a member of Moldova’s first Parliament Ion Vatamanu. Both of the coins are made from silver.
The silver coin of the series “Famous Women” commemorates folk music artist Maria Dragan – 70 years of her birthdate. The series “Classical Writers Alley of the Public Garden “Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” of Chisinau Municipality” is supplemented with two gold and silver coins on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of lawyer, historian and publicist Mihail Kogalniceanu”. Another two coins, made from silver and gold, were issued to remember the 100th anniversary of the death of writer Alexei Mateevici.
For the first time in the collection of commemorative and jubilee coins, there was issued a colored coin. The silver coin “Triangular China Pink”, a herbaceous plant, will supplement the series “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”.
The 2017 edition also includes the silver coin issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Council – the legislative body of Bessarabia. This is included in the series “Historical Events”. The same series, of 2018, is supplemented with two silver and gold commemorative coins that mark the centenary of Bessarabia’s union with Romania of March 27, 1918.
