There were over 6,400 individual millionaires in the Republic of Moldova last year, compared to 4,800 in 2022. The total income obtained by these persons was 19.7 billion lei, and the withheld tax was 1.46 billion lei. According to the State Tax Service, the highest amount of income declared by an individual in 2023 was 28.8 million lei. The youngest person in this category was 19 years old, while the oldest one was 83 years old, IPN reports.

Of the total number of people who earned more than 1 million lei, 4,542 taxpayers were men.

As for individual taxpayers – citizens, the amount of income obtained according to the information presented by income payers, in 2023 amounted to 111.7 billion lei. This income was obtained by 1.59 million people, while the income tax withheld at the source of payment and declared came to 8.7 billion lei.

The State Tax Service received 101,807 tax returns for the 2023 fiscal period, submitted by persons carrying out economic activity, and 196,940 tax returns submitted by taxpayers – individuals who do not carry out entrepreneurial activity.

Thus, total revenues in the amount of 672.0 billion lei and total expenses in the amount of 615.3 billion lei were recorded by economic agents in 2023. Compared to 2022, the revenues were up by 14.2 billion lei, while the expenses increased by 11.5 billion lei. The income tax declared by economic agents for 2023 totaled 7.3 billion lei, up 0.5 billion lei compared to 2021.
