Parents, teachers, young people and officials gathered together at the ceremony to enroll the first-year students of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testimitanu” in Chisinau on September 1. Rector Ion Ababii said about 750 young people were admitted to the University in the 2011-2012 academic year and approximately 300 foreigners will be enrolled the coming days, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Ion Ababii, most of the young foreigners who come to study in Moldova are from Israel, India, and Syria. “We have students from over 25 countries, who make our country famous all over the world,” said the rector. He also said that the young people enrolled this year have high average school grades. “They are those who will develop the health system in Moldova and will ensure the people’s health in the future,” stated Ion Ababii. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Moldovanu congratulated the new students and wished them success. “Everything is in your hands, dear students. You can change the situation in the national pharmaceutical and medical assistance sector,” he said. Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said assiduous work, time and devotion is needed to learn a medical profession. “I’m sure that your determination and abilities will help you achieve the results you, the teaching staff and the entire society expect,” he said. The first-year medical students said they realize they will have to make effort to see their dreams come true. Those who entered the university on a budget-funded place stated they worked hard at school in order to get high grades, while those who will study on a contract basis said they prepared themselves to pay the contracts that vary between 18,000 and 20,000 lei. There are more than 5 000 students at the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testimitanu”.
