Parents will be able to make donations to schools only through MPay service

Parents who want to contribute to the development of educational institutions will be able to do so exclusively through the Government E-Payment Gateway MPay. For the purpose, schools and kindergartens will have to open a treasury account. The Cabinet approved regulations in this regard, IPN reports.

According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, the institutions that want to receive such payments will plan them in the budget, will develop a plan of use resulting from the needs they have and will present it to parents. If parents want to contribute voluntarily, they will do so directly to the treasury account of the school and the school will later report how it spent the money.

“It is an important step forward for greater transparency and fairness in the management of these financial flows and for reducing the pressure that exists – we must admit – on parents from the administration of particular educational institutions regarding the collection of these payments,” stated Dan Perciun.

The donations can be used by the educational institution to purchase teaching aids and equipment  and to cover the expenses related to the initial and continuous professional training of teachers.

The minister noted that any collection of cash is illegal and will be reported to the National Anticorruption Center.
