A man aged 52 is suspected of killing the mother of newspaperman Dmitri Chubashenko. The police rule out the possibility that the crime is related to the work of the journalist, IPN reports.

Prosecutor of Chisinau’s Rascani district Igor Popa told a news conference that the victim and the aggressor knew each other as the man lived in the woman’s neighborhood. The suspect is addicted to alcohol and often borrowed money from the woman as he didn’t have a job. The debts were insignificant, of 50-100 lei.

The arrested man refused to make statements. It was established that on November 26, he went to the woman’s place and entered by cutting the door chain with a pair of pliers. He hit her with a chair and then asphyxiated her with a pillow. The neighbors heard cries, but didn’t intervene.

The suspect is investigated for intentional murder committed with special cruelty and could get life.
