The chief of the Criminal Police Service of the Hancesti Police Inspectorate and the owner of the recreational center where a young man was wounded mortally will be tried for murder. The investigation was completed and the case against the two was sent to court, IPN reports.
According to the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office, the police officer will be prosecuted for abuse of power accompanied by the use of firearm and premeditated murder, while the recreational center owner for complicity in murder.
The incident happened on the night of June 21 this year. Three young men decided to swim in the recreational center’s pool outside the working hours without the administration’s permission. The owner asked the police officer to help him identify and punish the three individuals who were causing damage to him by entering the swimming pool without permission. In the absence of grounds and legal powers and without filing a complaint about the infraction, the two staged an ambush at the swimming pool, using the police gun. As a result, one of the young men who swam in the pool that night was seriously wounded and died in the district hospital shortly afterward.
The same day the policeman and the owner of the recreational center were arrested and have been held on remand since then. The police officer, who was suspended from post, faces a maximum of 15 years in jail, while the owner six years behind bars.
The case against the two was sent to the Hancesti Town Court for examination, in accordance with the law. To make sure that the case is examined objectively, swiftly and impartially, Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen requested the Supreme Court of Justice to transfer the case to another court of law of the same level.
