The Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the expenditure estimate for the next legislative elections. The elections will cost over 52 million lei. The estimate will be submitted to the Government for approval. The money is intended for costs that will be incurred within the current election system, not yet a modified one, IPN reports.
CEC chairman Iurie Ciocan said that 80% of all the money will go to pay remuneration to the servants involved in the electoral process. “Under the Election Code, if additional costs for holding the elections appear as a result of legislative amendments, the money will be taken from the Government’s reserve fund,” he stated.
The CEC also earmarked 320,000 lei for organizing possible new local elections in at most five settlements in 2014.
The Commission determined that it needs 41 million lei for activity next year, without costs for holding elections. This sum includes 30 million lei for purchasing computers for every mayor’s office for the electronic register of voters and for connecting them to the Internet. Every electoral office will have by two computers.
