20.98% of people on voter rolls voted by 12:30pm

The Central Election Commission (CEC) said that 587 930 people or 20.98% of the people eligible to vote cast their ballots by 12:30pm. Compared with the legislative elections of 2010, the voter turnout is by 2% higher, IPN reports.

CEC president Iurie Ciocan said the highest voter turnout was recorded in Soldanesti district (29.54%) and in Rezina district (29.01%). More than 110,000 people or 17.78% of those eligible to vote cast their votes in the municipality of Chisinau. In Balti, 19 761 people or 18.73% voted, while in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – 24 280 or 18.68%.

A number of 25,000 people have been included on the additional lists so far.

Iurie Ciocan also said that the CEC is informed about the voting situation in Moscow. Members of the Commission are permanently in contact with the electoral bodies of the polling place established there and colleagues from the Foreign Ministry so as to make sure that the voting process goes smoothly. There were no reports concerning incidents.

As to the situation in other countries, Iurie Ciocan said that according to oral reports, the voter turnout there is higher compared with the previous elections.

The elections will be validated if the voter turnout is at least 1/3 of the people included in the electoral register. The polling places close at 9pm
