Twenty-one persons have been diagnosed with rabies in two settlements of Hancesti district after coming in contact with rabid stray dogs, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Health. According to the Sanitary-Veterinary Service, the situation in Moldova remains tense as the rabies virus is often met in foxes that frequently pass the disease to dogs. ”Activities are carried out in the district’s settlement to inform the people about how to behave when coming into contact with aggressive animals,” says the communiqué. The Ministry of Health warns about the necessity of immediately seeing a doctor when bitten by dogs or other animals that become aggressive without reason. Vaccination against rabies is done free of charge. The owners of domestic animals must take them to a veterinarian to have them vaccinated against rabies or for treatment if the animal is bitten.
