The 21st contingent of Moldovan peacekeepers was detached on Thursday to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. It consists of 41 soldiers, infantrymen and explosive ordnance disposal specialists. The contingent will guard military facilities and patrol the area of responsibility. For the second year in a row, four women participate in this mission, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry of Defense.
Present at the event organized on this occasion, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi said that the 41 soldiers that the Republic of Moldova dispatches to the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo were trained according to international requirements and will be interoperable with the armies of partner states, ensuring peace and security in the region.
“Any participation in international missions offers a good experience, new knowledge in the field, the possibility to interact with servicemen from other participating contingents and, last but not least, to demonstrate that the Republic of Moldova is a contributor to international security and a reliable partner,” stated Anatolie Nosatyi.
For his part, Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Republic in Chisinau Armando Pascal thanked the Moldovan peacekeepers for their contribution to the international peacekeeping effort. “Italy is proud to be able to cooperate with the Republic of Moldova, having a common goal of building a prosperous and safe future in every corner of the continent,” said the official.
The Moldovan soldiers will be part of the Regional Command-West and will be deployed to the Camp Villaggio Italia military base in Pech, Kosovo.
In March this year, the National Army celebrated 10 years of participation in the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
