A number of 23 firefighting vehicles will be distributed to local firefighting units in Chisinau , Balti and in districts. These were purchased by the Government following a lending agreement to the value of €6 million signed with Austria. The vehicles were presented in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the 23 modern vehicles will enable to shorten the intervention time in emergencies, when each second can result not only in damage, but also in casualties.
Austria’s Ambassador to Moldova Christine Freilinger noted that the vehicles will be of assistance to the Moldovan firefighters and will help maintain safety in the country.
Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan said the new firefighting vehicles will enable professionals to better manage situations of risk. “We are responsible for the people’s safety and this mission can be accomplished only as a result of the good training of the personnel and with technical capacities that meet the European standards,” he stated.
Head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Mihai Harabagiu said that by this project the population will be better protected from dangers and will benefit from a functional, mobile and appropriate intervention system. Five vehicles will be distributed to the districts of Chisinau, one will go to Balti, while the rest to districts.
The 23 firefighting vehicles were assembled by an Austrian company, being adjusted to the requirements in Moldova. The loan of €6 million is repayable in 20 years, at a zero interest rate, with a grace period of five years.
