Seventy-one U.S. Peace Corps trainees will arrive at the Chisinau International Airport on Thursday, June 10. This is the 25th group of U.S. Peace Corps Trainees that comes to Moldova. Before beginning their service, the trainees will have a 10-week "Pre-Service Training" to study Romanian or Russian, learn about Moldovan culture and have technical sessions. After the training, the volunteers will work in schools, universities, NGO's and in local public administrations throughout Moldova. Twenty-three of the volunteers will work in the field of English Education, 16 will serve as Health Education for Schools and Communities Volunteers, 17 will work in Community and Organizational Development Project and 15 will serve as Agribusiness and Rural Business Development Volunteers. “We try to determine the abilities of the volunteers and place them in the settlements and organizations where they will be most useful,” Elvira Nistreanu, manager of the Health Education for Schools and Communities Program, has told Info-Prim Neo. The Peace Corps Program in Moldova was launched in 1993. Created under an executive order issued by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, the Peace Corps is an independent agency that provides technical assistance and makes cultural exchange between Americans and nations of the world.
